The Ruth Asawa School of the Arts is a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), public high school (grades 9 - 12), offering a rigorous college preparatory curriculum in addition to visual and performing art classes daily.   Link to this section

Current 8th grade students with a strong interest in a single art discipline are encouraged to apply and audition for 9th grade.   Link to this section

  • Applicants must live in San Francisco and AUDITION to be considered for placement - Inter-District permits are not accepted.
  • Applicants submit a SFUSD Online Enrollment Application selecting Asawa SOTA as a preferred school.
  • Students AUDITION into a single art department/strand and continue in that department for four years.
  • All AUDITIONING students are considered no matter their experience or arts background.
  • Students attending Asawa SOTA are expected to perform and/or rehearse outside the regular school hours.
  • There are 250 spots for incoming 9th grade students.  Tenth (10th), eleventh (11th), and twelfth (12th) grade students are considered if space is available.
