Dear Ruth Asawa SOTA Families,

We want to share an important update about the future of the Academy, which is currently co-located on our campus.

Thanks to the success of the Academy’s innovative college and career readiness program—including dual enrollment with City College, internships, and work-based learning—SFUSD has determined that this program needs room to grow. Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, the Academy’s program will move to a new home at Wallenberg High School, where it can continue to thrive and serve even more students. There will be no change this school year.

This decision was made after careful reflection on how to build on the program’s success. While the Academy has made a big impact as a standalone school, relocating it to another campus will allow students to benefit from a broader range of academic offerings, extracurriculars, and support services.

The Academy students and staff have been valued members of our campus, and we support them as they prepare for this new chapter. We know transitions can be challenging and we want to be mindful of this as we continue this school year together on one shared campus. We are not planning for any other school to occupy the vacated Academy space for next school year.

We want to let you know that athletics programming will continue at the McAteer campus and the CIF license will be shifted to Ruth Asawa SOTA.

We’ll continue to share information with you as the transition planning moves forward.

In community,

Davina Goldwasser

Assistant Superintendent of High Schools
