Thurgood Marshall High School Schoolyard Outdoor Learning Project Link to this section
With support from SFPUC and CalFire, in addition to the Bond Program, Thurgood Marshall High School is enhancing its schoolyard. Construction started in summer 2025. The project adds functional outdoor green space (e.g., outdoor classrooms and gardens) to create more dynamic recreational, learning, and social spaces. The plan uses green infrastructure, trees, and landscaping to create multi-functional site amenities that foster student growth while also absorbing stormwater runoff. Performance-based green infrastructure will be added to available spaces in the schoolyard. Large spaces, including three basketball courts and the parking lot, will be converted from impervious asphalt to permeable pavement.
