Community School Program

What is a Community School? Link to this section

A Community School is a school where specific resources are designated to provide additional supports and resources to students, families and staff in order to build effective partnerships that promote teaching and learning and whole-child development and and that prepare students to graduate ready for success in college, career and life.

In SFUSD, we have nearly 60 Community Schools (including 11 High Schools) funded by the California Department of Education - California Community School Partnership Program, Department of Children Youth and Their Families (DCYF) - Beacon Community Strategy, and the Student Success Fund administered by DCYF.

Each SFUSD Community School prepares an annual Implementation Plan, informed by a comprehensive Hopes and Needs Assessments, and in collaboration with the School Site Council, to determine how to organize its resources to support all students, but in particular to ensure targeted support to Focal Students (African American, English Learner and Special Education students).
