Admission FAQs

  • Ruth Asawa School of the Arts is a public high School in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD).

  • All students who audition, no matter what their experience or arts background, are considered for placement at Ruth Asawa SOTA.

  • We offer programing in 9 art departments, with 10 strands. 

  • Students must complete an application, audition assignment, and audition to qualify. Link to this section

  • Students audition to qualify in a single art department and continue in that department for four years.

  • Students are required to rehearse/perform outside school hours. Link to this section

  • Students apply to SFUSD with SOTA listed as a priority school in order of preference.

  • There are about 200 spots for incoming 9th grade students.

  • Incoming 10th, 11th, 12th grade students are considered if space is available. Link to this section

  • Students must live in San Francisco to apply.
