Ruth Asawa School of the Arts
The Ruth Asawa School of the Arts is a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) high school offering visual and performing art classes daily in addition to a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.
The Art Programs at Asawa SOTA include Architecture & Design, Band, Creative Writing, Dance - Ballet + Modern, Guitar, Media + Film Arts, Musical Theatre, Orchestra, Piano, Spoken Arts, Theater Technology (Stagecraft or Costume + Fashion Design), Theatre Arts, Vocal Music, World Dance, and World Music.
All current 8th graders, living in San Francisco, that have a passion in a single art discipline, are encouraged to apply.
Students audition for placement in one department only. Auditioning students are admitted based on audition results - no academic criteria are used.
Auditions are held in February for placement the following school year. About 200 students are accepted.
Please note that Asawa SOTA's application process is different than other SFUSD high schools. Both Asawa SOTA and SFUSD have their own, separate, application forms and process. Applicants must apply to both.
