Spoken Arts

Students in Spoken Arts explore their creative voice(s) through poetry, dramatic and comedic performance, improvisation, rap, and public speaking. The core of this four-year program is writing and performance, hand-in-hand. Spoken Artists have a passion for writing and an interest in honing their voice to perform their work. Over the course of the program, students meet a wide ranging group of artists in residence who support them in their journey to finding their authentic written and performance styles.

CiCi is a Oakland-born, Richmond-raised spoken word artist, educator, curator, past Poet Laureate, and author. She received her MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts and has been performing slam poetry for the last decade in the Bay Area.

Spoken Arts Collaborations

Spoken Arts annually collaborates with:

MoAD (Museum of the African Diaspora) as a partner of the poets in residence program, closing with an onsite reading and the publication of an anthology chapbook.
