C.A.R.E. Buchanan

What is C.A.R.E.?

There are three Centers for Academic Re-entry and Empowerment (CARE) programs in different parts of San Francisco. These programs are a partnership between the San Francisco County Office of Education (part of SFUSD) and the Y of San Francisco. The Buchanan YMCA has one small high school. There is another high school and middle school campus in the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA. The CARE programs serve students who have missed significant amounts of school or who have dropped out entirely.

Herbert Hoover Middle School

Hoover Middle School enjoys a reputation for academic, visual & performing arts excellence that spans over 50 years. Our staff works together to rededicate ourselves to this tradition, while also providing digital access to foster skills and programs that prepare our young people with the technological skills required of the 21st century. Ensuring access and equity for our families who have historically had the most difficulty integrating into our community is Hoover's priority.

Hilltop + El Camino Alternativo Schools

The mission of Hilltop Special Service Center is to provide a safe academic environment where students have the opportunity to prepare for post-secondary education, meet graduation requirements, access quality prenatal and parenting education, and receive health and emotional support services. Our students are provided with a supportive community where they can work towards completion of high school graduation requirements and receive assistance to become responsible, effective parents.

Mission High School

Mission is located in front of the beautiful Dolores Park where the neighborhoods of the Mission, Noe Valley, and the Castro meet. The campus is accessible from all parts of the City with its central location. We instill positive social values, acceptance, and an appreciation for the diversity represented at Mission. Our academic focus school-wide is aimed at preparing ALL of our students for college and careers with rigorous courses including a rich array of AP and honors courses.

Thurgood Marshall Academic High School

Founded in 1994, Thurgood Marshall Academic High School is a four-year college preparatory high school with a diverse student body in southeast San Francisco.  With an eight-period schedule, students choose an extra course in the daily routine to challenge themselves and expand their options. Students take core and elective courses, including AP courses, which meet all UC and CSU admission requirements. Students enjoy access to a refurbished and expanded College & Career Center, a fully staffed Wellness Center, a Peer Resources Program, and multiple extracurricular activities.
