I’m a little over a month into my new role as the superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District, and I am thrilled to rejoin such a vibrant and diverse community, where I previously served in a leadership role for elementary schools. While I’m familiar with the district, I’m coming in having been away for 10 years. I know a lot has changed in SFUSD and generally in education, and I want to make sure that I take some time to listen and learn and understand what the needs are in the district.

The first day of school can bring excitement and jitters from our youngest students to the district's superintendent. As your new superintendent, I have those emotions and more as the first day of school quickly approaches. I want to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year and let you know how honored I am to serve the students and families in the San Francisco Unified School District.

Make sure your student is up to date on all required immunizations for school by Aug. 17. There may be a wait for immunization appointments with your healthcare provider, so get started as soon as possible.

Translation and interpretation resources are available for SFUSD families.

Get digital copies of the family mailer that will be sent out to families in August 2022. Available in English, Español, 中文, عربي, Gagana Sāmoa, Tagalog, and Tiếng Việt.

Even though school meals are free, filling out the Multipurpose Family Income Form helps secure funds for your school.

School meals will be available to all students at no cost in the 2022-23 school year.

Beginning August 8, molecular take-home test kits will be available at all SFUSD schools and central sites for SFUSD students and staff.

Review the academic calendar for holidays and other important dates before the school year starts.

Get tested for COVID-19 at a number of SFDPH community testing locations.

For the 2022-2023 school year, SFUSD will be providing safe and reliable transportation to and from school for eligible students.

Starting Aug. 9, the public open session for SF Board of Education meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. Closed sessions, which are not open to the public, will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The email address, phone number, and online form for the Student Family School Resource Link are working again. If you sent an email to schoollunch@sfusd.edu between Aug. 1 12:00 a.m. to Aug. 3 2:10 p.m., we cannot recover it, so please resend it.

EPC Southeast Office will reopen on Monday, August 8.
