Board of Education Community Conversations
The Board of Education is committed to engaging community members in the kind of two-way dialogue that can’t be accomplished in regular board meetings. To that end, this is a first in a series of community conversations to occur at regular intervals throughout SY 23-24. The purpose of these first meetings is to discuss: Board Governance.
The meetings will be held on Sept. 30, Oct. 3, and Oct. 5. More details and RSVP coming soon.

2023-24 Board Governance Calendar
This calendar notes the major topics and decisions that will be discussed at each board meeting during the 2023-24 school year. The focus for each meeting is determined based on required topics that must be presented to the Board of Education (i.e. interim financial reports), commitments the district has made (i.e. recommendations for parent advisory councils), and our progress monitoring efforts.

About
The Board of Education is comprised of seven members, elected at large to serve four-year terms. It is subject to local, state, and federal laws. The Board determines policy for all public schools, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, in the San Francisco Unified School District, City and County of San Francisco.
The Board of Education is responsible for establishing educational goals and standards; approving curriculum; setting the district budget, which is independent of the city's budget; confirming appointment of all personnel; and approving purchases of equipment, supplies, services, leases, renovation, construction, and union contracts. In order to manage the day-to-day administration of the district, the Board of Education appoints a superintendent of schools.
