Letter from the Principal

Hello and Welcome to Lafayette Elementary School. My name is Jacob Hodgson and I am the school’s principal.

I was raised in the Bay Area, got my teaching credential at Chico State University and my Masters and Administrative Credential at San Francisco State.

I started my career in education as a paraprofessional for students with special needs. I was then a teacher for eleven years before becoming the principal of Bayshore Elementary School in Daly City in 2010. After five years there, I became the principal at New Traditions Elementary in San Francisco. Last year I was the assistant principal here at Lafayette.

Lafayette is a very special place and I am honored to be the school’s principal. A talented and committed community of teachers, dedicated to your student’s academic and social growth, joins me in welcoming you to our school. It is our commitment to see to your child’s success both academically and socially.

At Lafayette, children are involved in learning that will challenge them, and stretch their thinking. Not only do we focus on the academics and the creative aspects of learning, we also look into the personal growth of our students as well. This is done through ongoing formative assessment, collaboration and partnership.

All students learn to be safe, responsible and respectful with the integration of PAX , Second Step curriculum and Core Value assemblies that emphasize characteristics needed to be successful in school and life. Our school works as a team to ensure the success of your child. We have high expectations for our students and have clearly outlined expectations for behavior that accompany our expectations of them academically. We want our students to be well-rounded citizens of the world!

When I am not here at Lafayette, I am spending time with my wife and infant son. We live here in the outer Richmond and spend a lot of time at the local parks and beach.

Once again, welcome to Lafayette! Go Dolphins!
