CAC MONTHLY UPDATE Link to this section
Hello CAC Community -
Thank you to all of our volunteers and community members who have been working so hard the last month. CAC members have been attending community events, meeting with district leaders and working hard to raise awareness about special education and how best to support students and families in SFUSD. CAC Board members took on leadership roles in the Fall Summit on November 16th.The board also met with Maria Su on November 18th to share concerns about special education staffing, budgeting and compensatory education as well as the CAC's priorities and recommendations to improve special education services for all students. It was a productive conversation and the CAC looks forward to more collaboration in the future.
This past Thursday, the CAC held their joint meeting with AAPAC. This month's meeting included a presentation from the CAC on Special Education Rights and an inspiring presentation on the importance of advocacy through the lens of intersectionality from Dr. Ammar Saheli. If you missed the meeting you can access the resources on our website - cacspedsf.com.
We hope you enjoy your fall break, take some time to rest and gather with friends and family and we look forward to celebrating Inclusive Schools Week with you when we return!

PURPOSE OF THE CAC Link to this section
The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is to champion effective special education programs and services and advise the Board of Education on priorities in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).
The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members are parents of students with disabilities.
Joining the CAC gives community members an opportunity to have their opinions heard and make a difference in the way special education is conducted in our area. Find out more on the CAC membership page.
