Lafayette Elementary School Named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School

September 28, 2016 (San Francisco) - Lafayette Elementary School has been recognized as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education, along with 33 other California public schools and 4 private schools.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program honors schools that show exemplary performance for all student subgroups and those that have demonstrated considerable improvement in the performance of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Principal Heath Caceres credits the school’s success to several factors. “We have great parent participation and a dedicated staff committed to nurturing and developing growth mindsets. These are some reasons our students are thriving.”

Interim Superintendent Myong Leigh congratulated San Francisco’s award-winning school.

“The students, staff and community at Lafayette have earned this special honor through their hard work and commitment to excellence,” said Leigh.

“It takes courage to do the right thing for children, even in the face of significant challenges. All of you – students, teachers, and administrators – deserve our highest praise” states U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr in a video message to award recipients.

Schools will be honored at the Blue Ribbon Schools national awards ceremony in Washington D.C. from November 7th, 2016 through November 8 th , 2016.

Previous SFUSD National Blue Ribbon School winners are Lowell High School, John Yehall Chin, Yick Wo, Stevenson, E.R. Taylor, Ulloa, and Clarendon elementary schools.
