What is the SSC? Link to this section

The School Site Council (SSC) is an elected group made up of parents, teachers, school staff, students (when applicable), and community members. The SSC works together to support student success by: (Make bullet points)

Reviewing school data and identifying student needs
Developing, reviewing, monitoring, evaluating, and approving the SPSA
Reviewing proposed categorical-fund expenditures, including Title I
Gathering input and recommendations from advisory committees, including ELAC
Recommending the SPSA to the Board of Education

Together, SSC members share ideas, discuss student needs, and help make decisions about programs, activities, and resources that support student success.

 

Why is the SSC important?

The SSC brings the school community together to plan, review, and monitor programs and resources that support student success.

The SSC meets regularly throughout the school year to: 

  • Develop and maintain SSC bylaws that explain how the council operates. 
  • Elect SSC officers (Chair person, secretary) and carry out other responsibilities outlined in the SSC bylaws.
  • Seek input and recommendations from school advisory groups, including the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), to help inform the SPSA and support the needs of students and families.
  • Review School Safety Plan

Title I School Responsibilities Link to this section

Schools that receive Title I funds have some additional responsibilities. The SSC helps ensure that families have a voice in how Title I programs and resources support students.

For Title I schools, the SSC helps review and provide input on: 

  • Parent and Family Engagement Policy — how the school will involve and communicate with families.
  • School-Parent Compact — how the school, families, and students will work together to support learning.
  • Title I Expenditures — how Title I funds will be used to support identified student needs and the goals of the SPSA.
