Teacher Academy is a three-year Career and Technical Education program that is offered to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco Unified School District. The order of courses in the Teacher Academy are as follows:
- 10th Grade Introduction to Education
- 11th Grade Honors Child Development
- 12th Grade Honors Schools and Society
All students in our Academy participate in weekly work-based learning experiences via their internships at our local elementary schools, middle schools, K-8s, and in our own high school's Special Education Day Classes. This gives them the opportunity to support the young people of our community, learn from a wide variety of mentors, and develop their leadership skills and professional confidence.
In our Teacher Academy classroom, students are collaborating in a project-based learning environment to cover the history and issues of modern education; the fundamentals of working with people including behavior management, pedagogy, and curriculum design; the research and critical thinking required for post-secondary employment; and the foundations and theories of child development. Students sometimes spend class time learning off-site via field trips to places like the Exploratorium and nearby collegiate campus such as UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley. In our Academy, our students also develop the writing and speaking skills required for job interviews and college applications.
Join Teacher Academy if you are a student looking for a supportive learning community and are interested in developing the professional, academic, and social-emotional skills needed to pursue a career in Education, Child Development, and Family Services!
