My Digital Life Family Parent Letters
Growing up today, students’ have complex lives. There is their home life, school life, and also their digital life. While your kids may be young, they most likely have a favorite show on YouTube that keeps them entertained or an app that they like to play. For the average student, their Digital Life is separate from their school and home lives. As they grow, their Digital Life changes from watching and playing to hopefully, creating, interacting, researching, and critically thinking about their world. Our role as educators and parents is to guide them in their Digital Life so they can navigate safely, conduct themselves ethically, and build positive experiences.
We start the year talking about My Digital Life for dual purposes. First, we acknowledge that students' Digital Lives are unique – reflective of their interests and shaped by multiple influences. Second, we want students to begin to understand that just like home and school, when you are online there are rules, expectations, and norms that can help make our Digital Lives a positive experience for ourselves and others.
