About:

The Ad Hoc Committee on Student Assignment is a subcommittee of the Board of Education. Each year, the Ad Hoc Committee on Student Assignment hosts a series of public working meetings with staff to monitor SFUSD’s student assignment policy. This year, the Ad Hoc Committee on Student Assignment will meet to support implementation of the new zone-based student assignment policy for elementary schools that was approved by the Board in December 2020. Additional information about the process for developing a new elementary school assignment policy can be found at sfusd.edu/studentassignment

    SFUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS ARE HELD IN PERSON WITH OPTION FOR THE PUBLIC TO OBSERVE THE MEETING VIRTUALLY OR BY PHONE

    NOTE: Beginning 3/18/2022 while masks are no longer required in City facilities in most settings, they are required for public hearing rooms. Anyone attending a public meeting in an SFUSD facility is required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

      Summary

      SFUSD staff presented a brief overview of the policy, including zones, diversity categories, and tiebreakers. Staff also shared findings from the fall community engagement, where over 400 community members provided feedback on how they would like to see the elementary school zones be developed. Finally, staff shared an overview of the zone development and evaluation process, which is currently underway.
