Marching to College & Interpreting Test Results - Highlights for May 12-18, 2015
Bret Harte Elementary School, Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8, and Spring Valley Elementary School will be honored at City Hall during SF Environment’s annual school award ceremony. These schools have shown excellence in environmental education and stewardship, including their stellar lunchroom composting; school gardens and outdoor science programs; efforts to encourage biking, walking, carpooling, and taking public transit to school; and commitment to making environmental stewardship part of their school culture.

Elementary and middle school students will be symbolically “marching to college” to celebrate the journey to college for youth and families in the Mission District. Led by Mission Graduates and Jamestown Community Center over 700 students and families will march and chant and share their college aspirations.

Schools are finishing up the first year of all-computerized testing for English and math. Parents will learn how to interpret their child’s results, and they’ll be able to take a sample test at an information night about the Common Core standards and assessments. District leaders will be on hand to answer questions at this school year’s last Smarter Balanced parent information night.
