Presidio Middle School Closed Friday, February 28
San Francisco (February 28, 2020) - Presidio Middle School is closed today, Friday, February 28 due to concerns about an outbreak of gastroenteritis at the school.
The symptoms being reported by students are consistent with gastroenteritis, not other viruses. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19, previously referred to as “coronavirus,” in San Francisco.
Since Wednesday 155 students reported symptoms consistent with gastroenteritis. In consultation with the SF Department of Public Health (SFDPH), SFUSD made the determination to thoroughly sanitize all surfaces again before students return and this requires at least 48 hours. The school will reopen on Monday, March 2.
“We understand that closing school is a burden on families and students, and we appreciate their understanding as we work to ensure the wellbeing of the school community,” SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews said.
