Will there be bussing for non-public-school (NPS) students during the school closure?

Yes, non-public schools (NPS) will be open, and transportation services will be provided.

Will charter school students receive their special education services? For example, will IEP meetings be happening, will there be specialized academics, paraeducators, transportation or related services provided?

Yes, Creative Arts Charter, Gateway Middle School, Gateway High School and Life Learning Academy are all members of SFUSD's Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The students who attend those schools participate in general education classes. Special education services at those schools such as pull-out or related services, transportation, paraeducator support will not be available during the strike.

Will related service providers who are non-public agency staff still provide services during the strike?

Yes, Non-public agency staff are expected to work during the strike.

If students have IEP ERMHS services or other IEP services through a contract provider who is not an SFUSD employee or union member, can students still access those services if they meet their provider offsite or in another location?

Non-public agency providers will not be offering services off-site unless the student already has an existing appointment at a clinic that is not an SFUSD site.

Will Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families and other afterschool programs in school buildings be open?

No, Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF) programs that are in schools will be closed. However, a number of community programs that are at other locations will be open. Get a list of childcare and camp options.

Will programs like Edgewood and Seneca be open?

Yes, Edgewood and Seneca will be open, as they are not SFUSD programs.

Will Access programs at Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center and the Arc be open?

All SFUSD school sites will be closed on Feb. 9-10, including the Arc. The Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center is not an SFUSD site and will be open. Please contact Pomeroy and The Arc directly for specific program information.

Special education timelines, including IEP meetings and assessments, are not paused due to strike.

Will learning packets be provided for students who receive special education services?

Printed learning packets were distributed to school sites. If your student did not receive a packet, you can access electronic versions of the packets. An email has also been sent to families with students in Extensive Support Needs classrooms to let them know they can request a printed packet. Please note that these packets are not a substitute for special education and related services and do not provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).

Will nutrition services be provided for students with special feeding needs?

The Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) and ​its community partners will provide free breakfast and/or lunch for all youth ages 18 and under during school closures. Find more information about free meals. Access to weekly groceries from community food pantries and home delivery will be sponsored by the SF Marin Food Bank.

What should families do if their child is physically or mentally unsafe at home during the day?

If families are concerned their child is physically or mentally unsafe, call 211 to connect to expert, caring help 24/7.

Should I cancel my student’s bus rides if the strike proceeds?

If schools are closed, transportation services to SFUSD school sites will not be provided.

What is the proactive compensatory education plan to recover from missed learning?

The compensatory education plan is dependent on the length of the strike.

Will the district extend the school year to make up for any days that school is closed? If so, how will ESY be impacted?

SFUSD’s goal is to meet its obligation to provide 180 days of annual instruction to students. We are exploring options to make up for any lost school days.

How will missed service minutes be made up?

Once the strike is over, each IEP team will assess the impact of the strike on its student and make a plan to assist the student to recover from the missed school days.
