Hello Bulldog families!

Happy first Friday of this strange school year! In addition to everything else we now have wildfires and rolling blackouts. Some of which have impacted our community. Everyone is safe currently, but these things may impact classes going forward. From all reports, your kids have been amazing this week. Thank you for trusting us with them.

Some students and families have reached out about textbooks and other materials. We are planning for a materials pick-up day in early September. We want to wait until enrollment and schedule changes have mostly stabilized. In the meantime, the board of education and SFUSD leadership have mandated that the start of school be focused on community building, so there shouldn't be anything your student is missing out on for not having instructional materials.

The most important instructional tool for students right now is technology. We have been delivering chromebooks and hotspots to homes, generally we are able to get items to you within 24 hours of your request. If your student needs technology please complete this survey: technology request. If you are completing the survey on a phone, know that you have to scroll for a while before the questions start. If your student already has technology which is not working properly, please submit a ticket through the Student and Family Resource Link or call 415-340-1716. Once the ticket is received, a Department of Technology team member will assist with scheduling an appointment and next steps. Families must bring their damaged/non-working device to the appointment for exchange.

Within the next week I will be scheduling an online family town hall meeting. I am awaiting confirmation of interpretation services. More details to some soon!

Student attendance is not entirely accurate. Please do not worry about current absences. We are working out some challenges with our attendance system. We hope to have things working more smoothly within a couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you have any attendance questions please email Jasmine Galang, our attendance clerk: galangj@sfusd.edu

Within the next week we will begin our student and family check-ins. Each family will be assigned a point person who will check in regularly. Please be aware we may be calling from unfamiliar or blocked numbers.

The Multipurpose Family Income form for the 20-21 school year is available online at sfusd.edu/MFIF. The form is available in English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Families must submit a new application each school year to qualify for meal benefits. Even if your student does not eat school meals, submitting this form helps to secure classroom funding. Meal benefits are available regardless of citizenship status and eligible families should continue to apply; the “public charge” rule does not apply to school meal programs. For assistance, please contact School Nutrition Services at 415-749-3604 or SchoolLunch@sfusd.edu.

I hope you are all safe and well,

-Kim Kelly
