Technology in the Classroom and Friends in the Lunchroom - Highlights for Feb 10-16, 2015

Highlights

Students at International Studies Academy have been hard at work learning through hands-on projects, and they’re ready to exhibit what they’ve learned. Projects to be presented include a study of how students will pay for their first year of college; a student-drafted constitution; and a project on unfair housing practices connected to the play A Raisin in the Sun.

Families of middle schoolers will get a chance to work with the iPads their children are using in math and science classes at a "Technology in the Classroom" workshop. SFUSD Math Content Specialist Glenn Kenyon will show parents what’s currently in use in classrooms.  Parents will create their own math and science projects using the same devices and applications the students do in class. The event is open to any interested SFUSD parent, regardless of their child’s age.

When:   Thursday, February 12 / 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Where:   SFUSD Curriculum and Instruction / 750 25th Ave. / Multi-purpose room

Eating alone in the cafeteria? Not this Friday. Students at Presidio Middle School and others across the nation are celebrating No One Eats Alone Day, a student-led initiative to combat social isolation. Schools are embracing a broad spectrum of curricula and activities to emphasize inclusivity and promote a culture of acceptance. Presidio student leaders have been drumming up excitement for the day and have conversation starters ready to get kids talking over their sandwiches.
