Hello! This week I’ve been thinking about how difficult 2020 has been. I want to take a moment to acknowledge that many of us are struggling, whether it’s financial and housing security, the difficulty of trying to maintain “normal” life, the ongoing racial injustice we have seen, or just the endless smoke and fires keeping us shut up in the house. This is not easy. The Wallenberg team appreciates the grace and kindness so many of you have shown. Please know that this community is here to help, and if you, your student, or your family are struggling in any way, we want you to reach out. We may not have all the answers, but we can help with more than just school.

Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco has created an excellent list of resources for students and families: https://www.ppssf.org/resources

We are still seeking nominees for our School Site Council and our English Learner Advisory Committee. These two committees are where you can have your voice heard about the direction of the school. There is no expertise required. I know that many of you are extremely busy right now, and I can promise that we will keep these commitments manageable. If you are interested in serving, please complete this survey: https://forms.gle/mY2sC9XcpATuHnW47 If you have questions about the ELAC, please reach out to Jesus SIcairos sicairosj@sfusd.edu. Any SSC questions email me kellyk1@sfusd.edu

Please complete the Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) for this year. It is located here: https://www.sfusd.edu/services/health-wellness/nutrition-school-meals/apply. This form does more than qualify your student for free or reduced-price lunch. At high school if your student qualifies it can reduce or eliminate fees for college applications, SATs, and AP tests. It also provides us with important data for school funding.

If you need help completing the MFIF our technology partners are offering help. You can book a 30 minute appointment for help here: https://booking.appointy.com/volunteertechsupport . When booking, choose “Multipurpose Family Income Form” and find a time that works for you. The appointment platform will send an email and text reminder.  That same link also has options for tech support with Zoom, Google Classroom, and other platforms.

In the coming weeks we will be holding the following online events for students and families: club rush, where students can explore and join clubs; a 9th grade social; and a parent meeting. Dates and details to come.

Please take care of yourselves and be in touch with anything you need.
