What happens when your student receives a waitlist offer?

When your student receives an offer to transfer into one of your requested schools, you will see "Current Offer" appear as their status in the "Student Info/Waitlist" tab of their ParentVUE display. The Enrollment Center will also send you an email, text message, and robocall to notify you - these messages go to the parent/guardian you indicated as "Parent/Guardian 1" on your application.

Please make sure the Enrollment Center has your most up-to-date information by filling out this form if your contact information has changed. This is especially important if you have not been receiving emails or text messages from the Enrollment Center about the assignment process this year.

When you receive a new offer, you need to accept or decline it. Respond to your offer in ParentVUE — follow these instructions. If you need assistance, please call or visit the Enrollment Center - we're here to help. Please do not email your response to your waitlist offer! Our team does not have the capacity to accept responses by email.

If you do not respond to your waitlist offer by the deadline (see below for specific timeline), it will be counted as a "decline", and you will be removed from the waitlist for your offered school and any lower-ranked waitlist choices. If this is not what you want, please call or visit the Enrollment Center and we can help you rejoin the removed lower-ranked waitlist choices in your original waitlist position. We cannot allow you to rejoin the offer school's waitlist in your original waitlist position, however. So, please respond to your offer!

Offer Timeline

  • April to July: New offers will typically be sent out on Monday mornings. You have 5 days to respond; the deadline is Friday at 4:30 PM.
  • August: New offers will be sent every day. You have until 4:30 on the following business day to respond.

Regardless of whether you accept or decline the school offered to you, your student can remain on other waitlists. When you enter your response in ParentVUE, you should review your other requests and confirm whether you with to keep or cancel them.

Will I get a confirmation of my response to my child's waitlist offer?

Between April and July, when you have responded on ParentVUE to your child's waitlist offer, we will not finalize your response until Friday. This is because MANY families have second thoughts and change their decision midweek - we want to give you a workweek without losing your waitlist assignment or current assignment.

So, you will not receive an immediate email confirmation when you submit your response on ParentVUE, but you will be able to see the response you selected in the "Student Info/Waitlist" tab of your child's ParentVUE page.  If you need help accessing ParentVUE to confirm your waitlist offer response, please call or visit the Enrollment Center.

We will send email confirmations for acceptances, declines, and non-responses (non-responses will be counted as "declines") each weekend. If you do not receive a confirmation email the weekend after you respond to a waitlist offer, please call or visit the Enrollment Center and we can help confirm your response.

After confirmations are sent, your decision is final and cannot be changed, as the space your child will not be occupying (either in their newly offered waitlist school or previously assigned school) will be offered to another student.

How to cancel a waitlist request

If you are no longer interested in being on a specific waitlist, please let us know so we do not bother you, and can more quickly offer seats to other families!

  • In ParentVUE, select the student whose waitlist you wish to cancel.
  • Go to the "Student Info/Waitlist" tab.
  • Click the "Manage Waitlist" button at the top of the page.
  • Scroll down to the "Keep or Cancel Waitlist Choices" section.
  • Click "Cancel" in the "Action" row for the waitlist choices you want to cancel, and then click "Save Changes."

If you need help, please contact the Enrollment Center! We are happy to cancel requests for you.

How to join waitlists, or change your waitlist requests

Applicants can submit the waitlist application to join up to 3 schools' waitlists. The waitlist application opens immediately following the Main Round deadline, and will remain open until the waitlist application deadline in late August. See the enrollment key dates for specific deadlines.

To submit the waitlist application online or in-person, review the options and follow the instructions available at sfusd.edu/apply.

Students who are already on waitlists are able to change their waitlist requests or add new requests by submitting a new waitlist application, with their full updated list of choices. New applications will overwrite previous requests. But if you include an existing school on your new waitlist request, your student will keep their position on that waitlist.

How to view your waitlist status

Waitlist status information is viewable in ParentVUE, in the "Student Info/Waitlist" section. It will be updated regularly.

For detailed instructions and screenshots, visit this webpage.

To view your student's waitlist status in ParentVUE:

  1. Go to sfusd.edu/onlineapp, and log into your account or activate it
  2. Click "ParentVUE" in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Select your student by clicking on the student photo in the upper left-hand corner
  4. Click "Student Info/Waitlist" on the left side of your screen
  5. Scroll down to view the Waitlist Status for SY 2026-27. A table will display the school, grade, and program for each waitlist your student is on. "Preference order" shows where that choice lies on your ranked list (e.g. "1" = your 1st-choice school). "Waitlist Position" shows where your student is on that waitlist (e.g. "1" = your student is 1st on the waitlist).

How long is each waitlist, and how many students will get in?

You can view the number of students on each waitlist in the first tab of this spreadsheet, which will be updated regularly: Current and Historical Waitlist Information

We cannot know how many students will get in ahead of time; it will depend on how many seats become available and how many families decline new offers. Generally we encourage you to be patient and optimistic. You can review information from last year's waitlist to get a sense of what has happened in the past. When will ParentVue show my updated assignment for 2026-27?

The homepage of ParentVue will not show your child's updated assignment for 2026-27 until July 1, 2026. This is because families currently enrolled in a specific school still want to use ParentVue to see their student's grades and communicate with their student's teachers!

Rest assured that even while you are waiting for ParentVue's homepage to update, your assignment without change without you communicating a clear decision to the Enrollment Center.
