Student Nutrition Services

Student Nutrition Services (SNS) is committed to providing students the equitable support they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond, by keeping them nourished along the way.

School meals are offered at no cost to all students!

  • Thanks to California Meals for All, all school meals will continue to be offered at no cost to all students in the 2022-23 school year. California was the first state in the country to adopt this new program.
  • The Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) is still important to support funding for school sites. By submitting the annual MFIF on SchoolCafe.com, you can help increase funding for classroom supplies, school staff salaries, and more in support of your students’ learning. Learn more at sfusd.edu/MFIF.
  • Save time and money by having your children take advantage of free school meals! Their participation keeps Federal funds here in San Francisco and supports the meal program to improve and expand.
  • See your school’s bell schedule for meal service times.

Breakfast

  • Every day we offer a nutritionally balanced breakfast, including fresh fruit and optional milk. Thanks to California Meals for All, all SFUSD schools will offer free breakfast.
  • Breakfast is typically served 20-30 minutes before the first morning bell.
  • We work directly with schools to set up Breakfast in the Classroom and other Breakfast After the Bell programs that are supportive, safe, and operationally sustainable.

Lunch

  • Every day we offer a choice of full entrees, with whole fruit, vegetable sides, and optional milk. To receive a free lunch, remember to pick a fruit or vegetable for maximum nutrition! Even if you bring lunch from home, grab a free milk, fruit and vegetable to round out your plate!
  • Because all meals are free, SNS is moving away from accepting cash at many schools. If you would like to purchase individual items without the complete meal (such as milk or whole fruit), we ask that Parents/Guardians first set up an account at SchoolCafe.com using these instructions.
  • During the school year, the following schools serve our Refresh menu, where meals are prepared and packed in the school’s kitchen by a team of SNS Dining Staff:
    • A.P. Giannini Middle, Aptos Middle, Balboa High, Burton High, Denman Middle, Everett Middle, Galileo High, Herbert Hoover Middle, James Lick Middle, Lincoln High, Lowell High, Dr. Martin Luther King Middle, Marina Middle, Mission High, Presidio Middle, Roosevelt Middle, Thurgood Marshall High, Washington High, and Willie Brown Middle
    • Early Education Schools (on independent campuses), Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and The Academy at McAteer serve meals prepared at the McAteer Culinary Center.
