School breakfast is available 30 minutes before the bell rings at most SFUSD schools. Additional breakfast models are being implemented to provide schools with more flexibility to ensure our students are well fed and able to focus on learning.

Breakfast in the Classroom

Served directly in the classroom after the opening bell, this approach makes it easier for all students to participate in breakfast. On average, SFUSD schools see breakfast participation rising from 17% to over 65% within the first year of implementing Breakfast in the Classroom.

Second Chance Breakfast

Schools with Second Chance offer breakfast in the morning before the start of school and again mid-morning during morning recess or nutrition break. Second Chance Breakfast is an opportunity to serve students who are not able to eat in the morning before school begins or who are not hungry first thing in the morning.

Grab n' Go Breakfast

Students are able to pick up their breakfast from a central location in the school and eat where they choose. The Grab n’ Go model provides a great deal of flexibility for schools based on their individual needs.
