Executive Director, African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative (AAALI)

Laticia Erving serves as Executive Director of the African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative (AAALI) for the San Francisco Unified School District. In this role, she leads districtwide efforts to advance academic achievement and educational outcomes for African American/Black students while strengthening the leadership and capacity of African American/Black families and educators. Working across schools, departments, and community partners, she helps build the conditions necessary for students to succeed.

A San Francisco native, raised in Bayview-Hunters Point, and proud SFUSD alum, Laticia brings more than 25 years of service to the district. Her career in SFUSD began as a paraeducator and has included 16 years as a family liaison, leadership of the African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC), and districtwide work advancing African American/Black student achievement. Her journey from SFUSD student to executive leader informs her approach to educational equity and the importance she places on elevating family voice in public education.

Laticia leads with high expectations and a deep belief in the brilliance of every child. She centers the voices of those closest to students and works to create systems where all students, especially those from historically underserved communities, experience belonging and the opportunity to thrive.

Laticia studied Family and Community Development at Arizona State University and has served on boards and advisory bodies throughout San Francisco. She is also the proud parent of two adult children, both SFUSD alumni. Her role as a parent continues to shape her dedication to students and public education. Grounded in service and deeply connected to the city that raised her, Laticia views advancing outcomes for African American/Black students as a collective responsibility that requires the full strength of the village.
