Senior Executive Director of Research, Planning and Assessment

Jesch Reyes serves as the Senior Executive Director of Research, Planning, & Assessment with San Francisco Unified School District. In this role, he leads the district’s work in research, assessment, planning, and evaluation, partnering across the district to strengthen continuous improvement, build shared data literacy, and ensure evidence informs decision-making and improved outcomes for students.

Jesch has more than twenty-five years of experience in urban public education, with teaching and leadership roles across San Francisco, Chicago, and school districts in Florida, Georgia, and the Chicagoland area. Prior to his current role, he served in leadership positions with Chicago Public Schools, including Director of Mathematics and Science, where he led districtwide efforts to strengthen mathematics and science instruction, professional learning, curriculum, and assessment. Across his career, Jesch has built partnerships with universities and other education organizations to advance teaching and learning, while remaining grounded in his experience as a classroom educator. He has been featured in professional development and documentary videos highlighting effective teaching.

Jesch holds a BA in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. He completed advanced mathematics credentialing through the University of Chicago, paving the path from teaching secondary math to subsequent district leadership. His professional learning has also included leadership cohorts through Harvard University’s Public Education Leadership Program, the Urban Mathematics Leadership Network, and the Deeper Learning Leadership Forum.
