Frequently Asked Questions

Round 2 School Year 2024-2025

In this section, you will find frequently asked questions regarding Round 2 school assignments.

How do I view my Round 2 school assignment?

If you submitted a Round 2 application by April 19, your school assignment letter is available beginning May 27.

  • You can view your school assignment online through ParentVUE starting May 27, 2024. Check the "Documents" tab for an assignment letter attachment.
  • You will also be mailed a school assignment letter starting May 27, 2024 via USPS mail.

If you have trouble finding your assignment letter, call the Enrollment Center to speak with a counselor — 415-241-6085.

How do I accept of decline my school assignment?

You can accept or decline your assignment in one of three ways:

  • Online using ParentVUE, in the "Online Forms" section. You can view step-by-step instructions to Accept or Decline in EnglishSpanishCantonese, and other languages here
  • Emailing the enclosed paper Response Form that is attached with your letter to enrollinschool@sfusd.edu
  • Drop off your Response Form at the Enrollment Center

For more information on how to accept or decline, please visit sfusd.edu/round2

What is the deadline to accept or decline?

The last day to accept your assignment is June 14, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

If you wish to decline, we ask that you let us know as soon as you've made your decision. That helps schools prepare accordingly, and opens up seats for other families who are still waiting to get into SFUSD schools.

Why did I not get one of my requested schools in Round 2?

Whenever there are more applications to a specific school, grade, and program than there are open seats, not all applicants can get in. If you did not receive an assignment to one of the schools on your list of choices, it's because there were not enough open seats at all of your requested schools.

In this case, if your student did not already have a school assignment for the 2024-25 school year, we "designated" them to a different school that does have open seats. We know you didn't choose that school, but we needed to place your student at one of the schools in SFUSD.

If your student did not get assigned to any school during Round 2, it's likely because you previously declined your Main Round school assignment. Because you previously declined a school assignment, we assume you do not want to be placed at a school you didn't choose.

What happened to my previous school assignment?

If you had a previous school assignment — either due to current enrollment or because you accepted a Main Round school assignment — any Round 2 school assignment automatically replaces that previous assignment.

If we were not able to give you one of your requested schools during Round 2, your student still has their previous school assignment.

What if my assigned school does not meet my family's needs?

If your family is facing a unique medical hardship or other extenuating circumstance, you may file for a Medical or Hardship Appeal. Appeals are considered only for cases where the student’s needs cannot be met at the assigned school, and where the family's hardship can only be met by assignment to a particular school. Although significant, hardships that impact a larger number of families (e.g. difficulty commuting, inconvenient school hours, or accessing specific school programs or features) will not be grounds for an approved appeal.

In addition to submitting the appeal request form, you mush submit a Wait Pool application to your requested school before the August 7 deadline at 11:59 PM.

I am not sure whether to Accept or Decline. What should I do?

Ask yourself whether you would rather your student attend your assigned school, or not attend SFUSD at all. Accept if you want to hold a spot for your student at their assigned school. Decline if you don't want to hold a spot for your student in SFUSD. If you need to learn more about your student’s assigned schools, start by visiting their website

Either way, you can keep trying to get your student into your preferred school.

  • If you prefer a different school, you can participate in Wait Pool and Open Enrollment, even after accepting your Main Round assignment. You DO NOT need to decline your Round 2 assignment in order to apply in the Wait Pool.

  • There is no strategic advantage to declining your student’s assignment. It will not change their likelihood of getting assigned to a higher-ranked choice in the Wait Pool or Open Enrollment.

What is the Wait Pool round, and can I participate?

sfusd.edu/waitpool

What: The wait pool round is an application period for students to enroll for 2024-2025. Students may submit a Wait Pool application for ONE school only. Once all Wait Pool applications are received, SFUSD conducts an assignment run to place all students into an ordered waiting list. Applications are put into order based on SFUSD's student assignment policy, using tiebreakers and random numbers, just like in the Main Round and Round 2. Wait Pool requests are not sorted based on who applied first; all applications that are submitted by the August 7 deadline will enter the assignment run together to be sorted.

When: the deadline to submit a Wait Pool application is August 7, 2024. The Enrollment Center will contact families who receive an offer to their Wait Pool school between August 12 and August 30, as soon as seats become available.

Who can participate: all applicants, regardless of previous applications or school assignments.

How to participate: submit the application, either online in ParentVUE, by email, or in the Enrollment Center office. Visit sfusd.edu/apply for more guidance.
