History/ Social Science + Ethnic Studies

Vision

Through the social sciences, students further develop a love of who they are and where they come from, as well as cultivate an understanding of their power and place in the world. Students will identify, analyze, and reimagine oppressive systems in order to transform them; develop and expand meaningful relationships with land and people in order to collectively actualize a truly just and democratic society.

Mission

This will be realized by the creation and implementation of a History/ Social-Science Core Curriculum and Pedagogy rooted in Ethnic Studies which centers the first-person stories, experiences, and knowledges of people of color. Students have opportunities to cultivate the knowledge of their ancestors, celebrate, and engage in rich inquiry, and  responsibly apply social science discipline-specific skills (history, geography, government, economics, etc.). Students develop a critical lens to analyze systems of power to ultimately eradicate racism and intersectional oppressions in pursuit of transformative social, political, and economic change within their local, regional, national, and global communities.
