School spreads holiday cheer with 10th annual sing-a-long
The holiday spirit will be in full swing for the 10th Annual AccessSFUSD: The Arc Holiday Sing-Along. Special education students, families, staff and community members will be joined by former Senator Mark Leno, along with Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews on bongos and VAPA Director Rob Daniels on piano. AccessSFUSD staff and students will play the saxophone, accordion, bells, percussion, and vocals, and Deputy Superintendent Myong Leigh will make introductions. The purpose of the event is to bring together the extended community for a holiday celebration that aligns with AccessSFUSD’s motto, “San Francisco is the Campus.” Community partners from all across San Francisco will come together to highlight our partnerships in this fun student-led and emceed event.

Student club celebrates Arabic language and culture
Dozens of students will gather for a festive potluck to display what they’ve learned in Arabic World Language classes and in the Arabic Cultural Club at Mission High School. The event will celebrate the cultures of the Arabic-speaking diaspora with traditional foods, music, a student work display, students reciting Arabic language poetry, and the “Happy Birthday” song sung in Arabic. Supported by SFUSD’s Multilingual Pathways Department and Public Education Enrichment Fund (PEEF), Arabic World Language classes are an opportunity for both native and non-Arabic speaking students to build oral fluency with a focus on academic reading and writing. SFUSD is one of a few districts across the state that offers Arabic as a World Language.
