Welcome to Balboa High School!

INTRODUCTION:

Balboa High School, founded in 1928, stands in the southeast quadrant of San Francisco with a student body that reflects the surrounding urban working class neighborhood. Balboa is a comprehensive high school with approximately 1230 students. Balboa High School is recognized citywide for its personalized interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning and developed the five 11th and 12th grade Academic Pathways: Game Design Academy (GDA); Creative Arts for Social Transformation (CAST) – Visual and Performing Arts; Law Academy; Peers United for Leadership, Service, and Equity (PULSE) – Public Leadership and Service; Wilderness Arts and Literacy Collaborative (WALC). The academic program is organized on a semi-block schedule with seven periods. The interpersonal nature of the Pathways requires students to place their pathway courses (English, History, and Pathway Elective) as their first priority.

Balboa graduates are equipped with the tools to successfully navigate and contribute to the world with integrity, justice, purpose, and courage.

Balboa works with stakeholders to provide students with a relationship-based curriculum in a supportive community that embraces diversity and is committed to social justice, engagement, discovery, and love.
