Air Quality

Air Quality

As the frequency and duration of wildfires in California increases, the smoke from these wildfires can negatively impact the air quality for San Francisco and the Bay Area. SFUSD monitors the air quality for the City and County of San Francisco.

Non-urgent notifications will be sent via email and posted online. Phone calls and text messages will be sent in the event of urgent notifications related to changes in school and other scheduled activities.

Air Quality Index (AQI)

The AQI reports daily air quality. It tells you how clean or polluted the air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern. To actively monitor air quality levels, please refer to airnow.gov.

Excused Absences

Any family wishing to keep their student out of school for the day because of the air quality is permitted to have the absence excused for health reasons. Follow the normal protocol to notify the school of the absence.
