Updates on 2024-2025 Enrollment

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The application deadline for applying to SFUSD schools is approaching — February 2, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. If your child is entering Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Middle School, or High School next year, they will need to apply for a new school. 

If you have already applied for the 2024-25 school year, thank you. If you have not applied yet, here is a brief guide to help you choose and apply to schools: 

1) Choose the right schools for your child:

If you need help finding schools that would be a good fit for your child, we have put together this list of resources:

• Tips on choosing schools: wondering where to start? These 5 tips help you think through what is important to your family.
• SFUSD School Finder: our online search tool uses your address plus filters like grades and programs to find schools that fit your needs.
• SFUSD School Videos and Tours: once you have your initial list of schools you want to apply to, get to know them better by watching their videos or attending a school tour.

TIP: Select at least 5 schools you want to apply to and rank them in order of your true preference.

2) Apply (online or with a paper application)

Whether applying online or by turning in a paper application in-person, if your student is new to SFUSD you will need to gather your required documents: student’s proof of birth, proof of home address, and parent/guardian’s picture ID. See here for a list of acceptable proofs of birth, address, and identification.

Apply online at sfusd.edu/ola. That web page also has instructions and help videos to help you apply online. Videos are in English, Spanish, and Cantonese.

If you prefer to submit a paper application, you can download and complete a PDF application and drop it off at one of our offices by Friday, February 2, 2024 or email it to enrollinschool@sfusd.edu (office closes at 4:30 PM). You can also pick up a paper application in our offices. Find our office locations.

3) Get help on the phone or in-person:

If you need additional help to apply for schools, call the Enrollment Center at 415-241-6085. You can also visit our office at Civic Center (555 Franklin Street) or in the Bayview (1520 Oakdale Avenue). We have staff who speak English, Spanish, and Chinese, and we are open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Bayview office is open Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Dear Parent/Guardian: 

If your student is interested in applying to Lowell High School or Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (SOTA) for the 9th grade in the 2024-25 school year, please know that these schools have earlier application deadlines than other SFUSD schools: 

• Lowell: Application is due on December 15, 2023 at 5pm

• SOTA: Application is due on December 15, 2023 at 5pm

Both Lowell and SOTA also have different application processes. You can learn more about Lowell’s application process at sfusd.edu/lowell-apply and the SOTA application process at sfusd.edu/schools/enroll/apply/ruth-asawa.

The PreK-12 Enrollment Fair is taking place this Saturday, Oct. 21! 

It's a great opportunity to meet principals, teachers, and parents from all of our schools (Early Education, Elementary, Middle, and High Schools)! 

Here is what you need to know: 

Date/Time/Location:

• This Saturday, October 21, 2023
• 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 
• John O'Connell High School, 2355 Folsom Street, San Francisco (map)

Getting there (Transportation): 

• There is no dedicated parking lot for the Fair. Street parking is available.
• We encourage you to take public transportation (BART or MUNI) or our free shuttles to the fair. You can also join a "walking school bus" group from the 16th St. Mission BART station. 

Food:  

• You can get food from our partners at the Vegan Hood Chefs 

Childcare: 

• Childcare will be provided on a limited basis to children age 4 to 7. Space is not guaranteed for every family. Please review our childcare rules. 

Languages: 

• Staff can assist in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin. 
• Arabic, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Samoan interpreters are also available to assist.

• Transportation: 
  • Free school bus shuttles are available to bring families to the Enrollment Fair and back home to your neighborhood in the afternoon!
  • You can also take BART or MUNI to the Fair! 
    • Join a "walking school bus" group organized by Safe Routes to School and SFMTA, to walk from 16th St Mission BART to John O'Connell.

• Learn about the organizations (SFUSD departments, SFUSD Parent Advisory Councils, City agencies, Community organizations) that will have informational tables at the Fair!

• Families who are looking to enroll their students in transitional kindergarten (TK), kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade for the 2024-25 school year can sign up for school tours.
