Pre-K State Assessments

DRDP logo

The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) is a formative assessment instrument developed by the California Department of Education for young children and their families to inform instruction and program development. The DRDP (2015) focuses on the child’s behavior, knowledge, and skills. The DRDP (2015) is administered in natural settings through teacher observations, family observations, and examples of children’s work. Ongoing documentation of children’s knowledge and skills in everyday environments is a recommended practice for early childhood assessment.

DRDP tool and system overview

This video shows how teachers set up to collect DRDP observational data in the classroom.

Observation resources for focused observations

The DRDP (2015) is administered through observation in natural settings. Direct Observation of a child is the primary method used to inform ratings, and they should also use other sources of evidence to capture a complete picture of a child’s knowledge and skills.

How do we use the data?

California State Preschool Programs must analyze findings from the DRDP assessment and the Parent Satisfaction Survey and develop a written list of tasks to modify the program for all areas needing improvement and procedures for ongoing monitoring to ensure that satisfactory areas continue to meet standards.
