Staff Recruitment & School Supplies - Highlights for February 3 - 9, 2015
Graduation rates and test scores have been steadily climbing for African American students in SFUSD. However, there still is an “opportunity gap” resulting in too many African American students faring worse than their peers in school. As part of the African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative, SFUSD is looking in its own backyard for employees who want to be more directly involved in the education of African American students at SFUSD. At the African American Education Night, Superintendent Richard Carranza will be introducing Landon Dickey, SFUSD’s new Special Assistant for African American Achievement and Leadership and a graduate of SFUSD schools, and talking with prospective employees.
When: Wednesday, February 4 / 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Pencils break. Backpacks rip. Kids need school supplies all year long, not just during the back-to-school season. The nonprofit organization, K to College, will distribute school supply kits and early learning kits to all pre-k through fifth-grade students at Sheridan Elementary. Each student will receive approximately $65 worth of materials, including markers, pencils, whiteboards, and paper. K to College is a nonprofit working to address the unmet material needs of homeless and other underserved children. State Assembly Member David Chiu and Superintendent Richard Carranza will be speaking.
