Sunset Elementary School named 2017 National Blue Ribbon School

Press Release

Sunset Elementary School has been recognized as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, along with 25 other California schools.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools for overall academic excellence or notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Sunset Elementary School is a vibrant, multicultural community of engaged students, educators and parents. The school embraces a culturally, linguistically and economically diverse student population.

Principal Sophie Lee credits the school’s success to several factors. “I contribute the success to our caring school community of engaged and joyful students, dedicated and talented teachers, and a strong parent partnership.  Each day at Sunset Elementary School ignites my passion to enrich the lives of all students.”

Schools will be honored at the Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on Nov. 6, 2017.

Previous SFUSD National Blue Ribbon School winners are Lowell High School, Lafayette, John Yehall Chin, Yick Wo, Stevenson, E.R. Taylor, Ulloa, and Clarendon elementary schools.

Details of the achievements of the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools can be found on the Department of Education's website.
