Highlights May 6-10, 2019: New STEAM spaces, African American College Signing Day Link to this section
E.R. Taylor Elementary School will celebrate a new makerspace that will build upon the school’s STEAM educational opportunities. Volunteers with Horizon and the Heart of America Foundation will create the makerspace in the morning, complete with makerspace materials, decor and artwork; and assemble water tables and a 5 senses garden in schoolyard barrels outdoors. In the afternoon, volunteers will lead students in an inaugural activity, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with school, business and foundation leaders.

Spring is the time of year when many college decisions are announced and shared with loved ones. Many of the 250 African American graduating seniors from across the district will be joined by Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews, family, friends and community members for SFUSD’s 4th Annual African American College Signing Day. The African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative and African American Parent Advisory Council hosted event is part of Former First Lady Michelle Obama's Reach Higher Initiative as a way to celebrate high school seniors choosing to pursue higher education. The evening will include a dinner, musical performance and an honoring ceremony.
