SFUSD Closing Lakeshore Elementary School

Press Release

San Francisco (March 11, 2020) - SFUSD is closing Lakeshore Elementary School immediately. On Wednesday evening SFUSD learned from the Department of Public Health that four students from Lakeshore Elementary School and some of their adult family members have reported respiratory illness. DPH is investigating and testing these students for COVID-19.

There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus or COVID-19 at Lakeshore or any other SFUSD school at this time. Based on the recommendation of the Department of Public Health, SFUSD is closing Lakeshore immediately for 14 days while public health officials investigate. Based on current guidance from DPH, Lakeshore families and staff are asked to self-quarantine, which means to stay home and monitor their health for 14 days. The district is actively working on ways to support student learning during Lakeshore’s closure and will be updating families in the coming days.

“We are in the midst of a challenging public health situation, and new information is surfacing rapidly,” Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews said. “We know this information is cause for concern. We will continue to work closely with health experts to inform these important decisions.”

On Thursday at 9:00 a.m. the Board of Education will be meeting in closed session with representatives from the City and County’s Department of Public Health to discuss the District’s continuing response to the novel coronavirus.
