San Francisco (September 12, 2025) - The San Francisco Police Department today confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the fatal stabbing that occurred near Junipero Serra Boulevard and Ocean Avenue on Sept. 10, 2025, after school hours and in the vicinity of Commodore Sloat Elementary School. Law enforcement has assured the district that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the school or the surrounding community.
SFUSD has confirmed that the individual who passed away was a parent in the Commodore Sloat school community. SFUSD extends its thoughts and deepest sympathies to the family as they navigate this very difficult time and asks the public to give both the family and the school community privacy.
"First and foremost, our hearts are with the family impacted by this tragic loss,” said SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Maria Su. “We are relieved that an arrest has been made and that law enforcement has confirmed this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to our schools. Our school communities are strong and supportive of one another, and we will continue to stand together as we move through this challenge. I want to thank our Board of Education, our city partners and other elected leaders, and our incredible SFUSD families, staff, and students for the care and resilience you have shown during this difficult time.”
The safety and well-being of students and staff remain the district’s highest priority. SFUSD continues to implement strong safety protocols across all campuses. The district is taking multiple steps to care for students, families, and staff during this difficult time. District and school leaders have been holding family meetings to provide updates and reassurance; are working in close coordination with the San Francisco Police Department to share accurate information; and have expanded access to school-based social workers and wellness staff. Teachers and school staff are being provided with guidance on supporting students who may be experiencing grief or uncertainty, and families are receiving age-appropriate resources to help guide conversations at home.
SFUSD recognizes that this news may raise feelings of grief, concern, or uncertainty for students, families and staff. The district is committed to standing with families and staff to ensure that all schools remain safe, supportive, and nurturing places for learning.
“Our school communities are built on connection and care,” said Board of Education Phil Kim. “The Board of Education is grateful to the staff, community partners, and public safety officials who have surrounded the family and Commodore Sloat community. We want to assure families across SFUSD that our schools remain safe, supportive spaces for students to learn and grow.”
Police have added that while an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation. They encourage anyone with information to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
