Everett Middle School Schoolyard Outdoor Learning Link to this section
This project is the result of an incredible collaboration between public, private, and school district entities. Beginning in 2023, SFUSD's Bond Program worked with the SF Education Fund and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to transform the two acres of asphalt schoolyard at Everett Middle School in San Francisco’s Mission District into an inspiring, safe, beautiful place for its 745 students to play and learn.
The project, expected to be fully completed in October, 2025, incorporated a combination of recreation features and educational elements. New greenery has been added to the site including stormwater-management systems that use plants and a bioretention area. There are also shade structures, outdoor learning opportunities and a pollinator garden.
A artificial-turf field is surrounded by an exercise track and basketball courts. Shade structures with tables underneath also provide seating options for students protected from the sun.
