(Academic, Enrichment, & Recreation)

ExCEL After School programs are in 87 SFUSD schools, including all elementary, TK-8 and middle schools.  The programs are funded by the California Department of Education and align with state and federal after school program requirements.  Enrollment is required to participate, and space may be limited.

Priority enrollment is given to focal students (identified by the state's Expanding Learning Opportunities Program funding ELOP).

SFUSD High Schools offer a range of after school program options depending on the school site and community needs.

ExCEL programs are a partnership between SFUSD and local community based organizations, with each school site having one designated Lead Agency with a site-based enrollment process. Every program collaborates with school-day staff to make sure that after-school academics are aligned with the school-day curriculum.

Students participate in:

Academics: Programs provide designated time for homework and study of reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and technology. High school students also work on college and career preparation and other credit earning options.

Enrichment: Students choose classes such as art, cooking, music, and life skills that are fun and broaden their experiences.

Recreation: Students participate in sports, dance, games, and other physical activities to stay healthy.
