Arrival & Departure
Every day each child must be signed in and out of the school by a parent, guardian or authorized designee that is over 18 years of age. All sign-in sheets are located in the classroom. For your child's protection, only authorized persons listed on the emergency card by the enrolling parent or guardian will be permitted to pick up the child. If someone other than the authorized persons must pick up your child, they must have a written permission signed by the parent and be over 18 years of age. Under special circumstances, you may request a waiver of this requirement from the school principal. The person dropping off and picking your child up must present their photo identification before a child is released.
Upon Arriving at School
To ensure a smooth and safe start to the day, every child must be accompanied into the classroom by their parent or an authorized adult designee who is 18 years or older.
Upon arrival:
- The parent, guardian, or authorized adult designee must record the actual time of arrival and sign in with their full legal signature (in ink).
- If the parent, guardian, or authorized adult does not sign in, they will be contacted and asked to return to sign or send someone in their place.
- The child is not officially entered into the school for the day until the sign-in is completed.
Upon departure from school
To ensure the safety of every child, each child must leave the school with their parent or authorized adult designee.
Upon departure:
- The parent or authorized adult designee must record the actual time of departure and sign out with their full legal signature (in ink).
- Be sure to inform a staff member in your child’s classroom that your child is leaving for the day.
Sign-In Policy
It’s important to sign your child in when they arrive at school. If you forget to sign them in:
- You will receive a call asking you to return and sign your child in.
- You’ll need to return within an hour to complete the sign-in process.
- If this happens twice, we’ll schedule a meeting with you and the school principal to discuss the situation.
- For preschool families only: If there’s a third time this occurs, your child’s enrollment may be ended, and an official Notice of Action will be issued. Parents have the right to appeal any action taken by EED. The steps for appealing are outlined in the California Department of Education’s (preschool) Notice of Action section.
Late Pick-Up Policy
We understand that late pick-ups can be stressful for both children and families, and we aim to provide support while emphasizing the importance of adhering to agreed-upon hours of care. The hours of care are determined by your needs or the program's operating schedule, and the official time is based on the clock in the office or classroom.
Expectations and Communication
- Parents and guardians must ensure that their child is picked up on time. If someone else is picking up your child, please inform them of the pick-up time.
- If you are delayed due to an emergency, please call the school or have someone call on your behalf to notify us of the situation. While we understand that emergencies occur, notification does not excuse a late pick-up.
- Emergency situations like a car accident, death, etc. should not trigger a consequence.
Late Pick-Up Procedure
Late pick-ups are tracked and accumulated over a 12-month period, from July 1st to June 30th. The following steps apply when pick-ups extend beyond contract hours:
- First and Second Late Pick-Up:
- A Late Notice will be issued for pick-ups more than 10 minutes past the designated time.
- Third Late Pick-Up:
- A meeting with the school principal will be required to review and potentially adjust your contract hours.
- Subsequent Late Pick-Ups:
- A third Late Notice will result in the issuance of a Notice of Action for disenrollment from services. Parents have the right to appeal this decision following the steps outlined in the Notice of Action.
- Parents and guardians have the right to apparel locally and at the State level
Extended Late Pick-Ups
If a child remains at the school past the program's closing time or 30 minutes beyond contract hours and staff cannot contact anyone, the following steps will be taken:
- Contact parents/guardians by phone.
- Contact the emergency contacts listed on the child's Emergency Form.
- If no one can be reached, Child Protective Services (CPS) will be contacted, and an "Abandoned Child Report" will be completed. CPS will coordinate with the police to have the child picked up and taken into their care.
CPS Contact Information: 415-558-2650
Safety Protocols
- Children will not be released to any adult if there is suspicion of intoxication or an unsafe situation. In such cases, other persons listed on the Emergency Form will be contacted. If no one is available, the police will be notified.
