Ways for Families to Get Involved

We have great aspirations for all the children in San Francisco, and we believe that collaborating with families is essential for student success. Our school provides many opportunities for you to engage in your child's education. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Join the Family Council: Each school has a Family Council composed of parents, guardians, teachers, staff, and community members. This group ensures the school meets the needs of everyone in the community. We encourage you to attend monthly meetings and get involved! Look for meeting dates and times on the school’s bulletin board, in newsletters, and via emails.
  • Serve on the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC): DPAC brings together one parent or guardian from each of SFUSD’s Early Education schools. The group meets regularly to discuss policies and suggest improvements, with a smaller group meeting with the central office to voice concerns and share ideas. Contact your child’s principal to learn how you can join.
  • Volunteer in the Classroom: We love having parents and guardians share their skills with students. Whether it’s assisting in the classroom, preparing materials, chaperoning field trips, sharing cultural traditions, or helping with school maintenance, there are always ways to contribute. Speak with your child’s teacher or principal to learn how you can help. For more information, refer to the "Family Participation Guidelines & Responsibilities" and "Volunteers and Visitors" sections in this handbook.
  • Participate in Parent Workshops: We offer workshops on topics like early literacy, social behavior, and toilet training to support your child’s development. These workshops and other events are held throughout the year. Be sure to check the school’s bulletin board, newsletters, and emails for upcoming workshops you may want to attend.
