Religious Instruction
EED programs refrain from any religious instruction. SFUSD values the diverse cultural and religious traditions of our students and families. In alignment with Board of Education Policy Administrative Regulation 6141.2 – Recognition of Religious Beliefs and Customs, SFUSD is committed to ensuring that students can observe important religious and cultural holidays without negatively impacting their school participation.
To support this:
- Each year, the District will provide a Major Holiday Calendar that includes a list of "Observances That May Impact Attendance."
- Schools will make reasonable efforts to avoid scheduling exams, athletic events, field trips, and other important school activities on these identified days.
- Students who are absent for religious or cultural observances will receive an excused absence per District attendance policies.
The District will share this calendar annually and communicate these expectations to all school staff to ensure a respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students.
For more information, families can refer to Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 6141.2 and the District’s published holiday calendar.
