SFUSD Administrative Regulation 5145.4 affirms transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming students’ right to:

  • be addressed by a name and pronoun corresponding to their gender identity as expressed by the student;
  • access to the restroom, locker room or other facilities consistent with their gender identity as expressed by the student; participate in the dress code, gym class, athletics, competitions or any other circumstances where students are separated by gender in school activities or programs (i.e., class discussions, field trips) in accordance with their gender identity as expressed by the student.

Additional rights and protections are listed in the administrative regulation linked above.

How to Update Student Name and Gender Marker in SFUSD Systems

Parents and guardians who wish to update a student’s name and/or gender marker on their school roster and student information system, to correspond with the gender identity as expressed by the student, must complete the School Roster Info Change Request Form and submit it to the Educational Placement Center.

That form and information about the process can be found here
