Marshall Elementary School 2016-2017 Innovation Awards

The Design Challenge

How can we create a collaborative school culture built on trust and supporting 21st century student outcomes?

Marshall Elementary School will use an Innovation Award in 2016-17 to create a collaborative school culture built on trust to support 21st century outcomes.

Initially, Marshall Elementary School was only focused on the challenge of creating 21st century learning experiences for their students. They were interested in breaking down barriers for their students to access opportunities that would allow them to gain the skills and capital necessary for future success. Although Marshall is still focused on this challenge, subsequent surveys and interviews with the staff uncovered another important challenge, which is that teachers and staff feel disconnected from their peers and lack trust in their relationships. They would like to collaborate with each other more but feel there is a lack of space and time to do so. With a combined focus on tackling the challenges of targeting 21st century learning outcomes and building a culture of trust and collaboration among the staff, Marshall Elementary hopes to prepare its students for future success.
