As your Superintendent, I’m excited to welcome you to a the 2026-27 school year in the thriving and diverse San Francisco Unified School District community!
At SFUSD, our mission is to make sure every student receives high-quality instruction and the equitable support they need to succeed in the 21st century. Along with academic achievement, we care deeply about students' well-being, helping them develop the social and emotional skills that prepare them for life both in and out of the classroom.
As a parent and longtime San Francisco leader in public service, education, and children and family advocacy, I know firsthand how important it is for schools and families to work together. That is why I encourage you to get to know your child's principal as well as their teachers. There are many opportunities for you to engage in your school community such as joining the different parent associations or affinity groups at your school, volunteering in your child's classroom, or participating in a districtwide meeting.
This handbook is here to guide you. Inside, you’ll find important information about district services, our Graduate Profile, your rights and responsibilities, and forms we ask you to complete each year. Keeping your information up to date helps us stay connected, respond quickly in emergencies, and provide the best possible support for your child.
We also encourage you to visit our website at sfusd.edu, for updates, announcements, and helpful resources for students and families.
Thank you for being an important part of our community. We're looking forward to a school year full of joyful learning, growth, and new opportunities. We're so grateful you're with us at SFUSD!
Warm regards,
Dr. Maria Su , SFUSD Superintendent
