The Academy San Francisco High School 2016-2017 Innovation Awards

The Design Challenge

How might we create a community space that celebrates our diversity and inspires a sense of pride and identity?

The Academy – San Francisco will use an Innovation Award in 2016-17 to design a community space that celebrates the diversity of the school and inspires a sense of pride and identity. Below is a description of the challenge they are focused on.

Recently, The Academy has moved into its own space for the first time in its eleven years of existence. The Academy had been sharing a space with another school and the staff and students have not had a feeling of ownership and identity on their campus. Due to the recent modernization of their campus, they finally have a place to call their own so that they can attend to their specific students’ needs. In order to create a welcoming environment in the school, The Academy will be involved in the redesign process of their entrance and main office space. They want to envision what the space will look like and feel like to make their stakeholders feel honored and cherished members of their community when they come to visit.
